Values and Ethos
Oliver's Battery Primary and Nursery School is a happy, thriving community where everybody is welcome and everybody belongs.
Our children are confident learners who are engaged and motivated to achieve through challenging, supportive and creative teaching.
We enhance and enrich the national curriculum through:
Our two Forest schools. Nursery and Year R have weekly Forest School sessions. All other classes have half a term of weekly sessions. We are fortunate to have three trained Forest School Leaders as part of our staff team.
Our Edible Playground. We work with Hampshire Gardens Trust to create a playground of food for the children to grow and harvest. Our qualified Gardener runs weekly sessions throughout the year.
Our rules of Ready, Respectful, Safe. We all make sure we follow these rules throughout school to make sure everyone can enjoy themselves and learn at school.
We follow Children's Rights. We regularly use children's rights to discuss our place in the world and how rights and responsibilities come hand in hand.
Trips and visitors. We plan a variety of trips for the children to enjoy, from residentials to Calshot and Ferny Crofts to day trips to Winchester and walks around our local area. We have strong links with our local community, including St Swithun's, Street Pastors and Winchester University.
Well-being. We are fully committed to supporting children's mental and emotional health. We are proud of our strong relationships and ensure all children have a trusted adult in school. Our two fully trained TALA's offer bespoke support. With help from the Mental Health Pupil Ambassadors', all children are taught strategies to support their mental well-being.
